Although it may be good for the soul to spend one day a month working the hell desk, I'm surprised the Hi-Tech compiler was as good as it was if development was continually being interrupted by unfiltered lUsers. Giving the team the freedom to pick and choose how and when to interact with the ordinary users via this forum has to be a win-win improvement. More of us benefit from your input without bugging you when you are working on gnarly code.
Wouldn't it be sufficient to archive the compiler installer and rebuild from a batch file created by copying the original compiler command line from the MPLAB output window? Having to put the whole IDE under VCS is just plain yucky!

To ensure the best chance of repeatability in future, archive the compiler installer and MPLAB installer too, and document which ones were used.
